Chapter 673 Meeting Minutes – January 13, 2009

Meeting was called to order by new chapter president Christine Pulliam at 7:00 pm.

Message from our new president: Thank you to outgoing president Beverly Lieberman for her years of service and smooth transition for the incoming officers. Thank you to the volunteers in the chapter for their efforts. Let’s reenergize the chapter through interesting speakers, social activities, flying, membership growth and increasing ties to the local community.

Christine presented a recognition plaque to Marlboro Airport manager Bob Stetson, to mark his 10th successful year. Bob reported on his efforts towards getting state funding for Marlboro Airport and the other privately owned public use airports in Mass. He also mentioned that GR Stetson, Sr., just turned 88.

Big D is coming home from rehab. The chapter secretary will send him a card.

Rich Olsen reported that St. Mary’s Credit Union expressed interest in helping to promote the chapter Young Eagles activity. Rich will get more information and pass it along to Christine.

Richard Dupée has a VHS tape of the TV segment covering chapter Young Eagles activity back in the 90’s. He has copied it to DVD and will work with Bob Hanlon to see if it can be used to help with chapter Young Eagles promotion going forward. EAA also has Young Eagles promotional materials available to the chapter.

Secretary minutes – November minutes were read and accepted (December was the holiday dinner – no meeting or minutes).

Treasurer’s report – read and accepted.

Membership report – dues are due now. 27 members (~ ½) have renewed.

Young Eagles report – upcoming event cancelled due to expected unfavorable weather.

Newsletter report – Christine thanked Bob Cooper for his article for the January newsletter. A volunteer is needed to write some for the March newsletter. Christine will contact others to get articles for upcoming newsletters beyond that.

Upcoming speakers – Dudley is in touch with Bob Adelizzi from Boston Approach and will schedule him at some point. Carol Anne Garrett will speak in July about her ALS around the world flight. Dudley is working to see if he can arrange control tower and Blue Hill observatory tours. He is looking for other suggestions as well. He also asked if speakers should be scheduled for every other month.

Mail-in information – none.

Introduced guest Paul Coccari from Stow.

News from around 9B1 – all quiet (too quiet) generally due to unfavorable flying conditions.

“I learned about flying from that.” – Reminder to remain visually alert for others who aren’t. Rick Olsen reports that the Sanyo rechargeable NiMh batteries offer much better capacity than alkaline batteries.

Old Business The stove in the trailer has been fixed. Other remaining work will have to wait for better weather.

New Business Christine will be distributing a survey to the chapter members. Please give it some thought and respond.

Christine and Dudley will be attending a chapter leader event in Oshkosh. Christine will set up a chapter board meeting when she gets back, probably in the first week of Feb.

Bryan Douros won the 50/50 raffle.

Dudley asked if there were any chapter bylaw changes after Jan 2001. The recollection was that the last change that happened was just after Beverly first became president.

Meeting adjourned.

Dudley introduced the guest speaker, Dennis Buzzell, from the David Clark Company. He didn’t speak about headsets. Instead he had a very interesting talk about David Clark high altitude and space flight suits. He generously donated a set of David Clark headsets.
