EAA Chapter 673 Meeting Minutes

June 14, 2005

Meeting was called to order by chapter president Beverly Lieberman at 7:05 PM.

Secretary's minutes of May 2005 read by Bart Bartelsman and accepted by the membership. 20 members were in attendance.

Treasurer's report was unavailable. May balance was $3,958.20

Membership report by Richard Dupee: membership currently stands at 42 paid, with about 8 members in doubt because of missing addresses, e-mails or dues. Rich Olsen and Richard DuPee are in the process of consolidating the membership files. Please send in dues for those who read this report and have not paid yet.

Young Eagles report by Bob Hanlon: Twenty-three Eagles showed up on June 11 for International Young Eagles day. Three children did not fly because they were nervous. Their trepidation was respected. $20 of donations for the event was accepted by Bob Hanlon. July 23 Young Eagles flights are in question because Bob Hanlon and some other pilots will be in OSHKOSH for the EAA convention. Next Eagle flying opportunity will be August 20, 2005.

Newsletter Editor: Call for articles with deadline June 28. This issue will be the July 2005 issue.

New members tonigh: George Seaman of Framingham. A long time pilot, used to fly at Westborough Airport in the 50’s. Knew Pete Kallander then. Pete Kallander introduced Karen Palmer, and signed her up for Chapter Membership.

Mail-in information: A new EAA chapter was formed at PYM Plymouth Airport. This chapter appears to be geared towards the new light sport aircraft ruling. The Collings Foundation annual open house is set for the weekend of June 18 and 19. Saturday will feature the remote fly-in.

There was no news from 9B1. Please continue to actively question unknown faces within the airport grounds. Report unsual activity to Bob Stetson.

I learned about flying from that. Bob Hanlon has started Acro lessons in a Super Decathlon. He finds the experience exhilarating. Richard Dupee has started formation flying with his Navion. He tells of the concentration required to keep the lead in sight during the formation. Jim Noone learned that if you fly within the same TRACON area, it is easy to obtain a pop up clearance. Jim did this while flying approaches in actual IMC to keep proficient.

Old Business: Chapter e-mail list is nearing completion. Please send corrections to Richard Dupee. It was also noted that the old EAA 673 website is still being hosted, but is extremely outdated. Ken Sherman will be asked to coordinate this with Bob Patterson, who was our prior webmaster.

Upcoming:

October 22, 2005: Yard Sale

September 24, 2005: Air Rallye; rain date September 25, 2005

New Business:

Yard Sale items will be consolidated this summer in Jim Grenier's hangar. Paula and Shirley have asked to please try not to donate stuff that you would take to the dump. If it is valuable, Paula will attempt to sell items on e-bay. This maximizes Chapter proceeds.

The following mission statement was compiled by the social committee, Jim Noone, Beverly Lieberman and Jim Grenier:

“Whereas it is our goal to create an infrastructure and an environment which will promote frequent opportunities for social interaction among Marlboro pilots and their guests, be it resolved that the membership agrees to:

1. Form a working group to refurbish the EAA trailer to include trash removal, painting and general clean-up. Saturday July 2, 9am clean up. Volunteers Jim G, Mark Lieberman, Shirley Purcell, Paula Skog, Richard Dupee, Deb Cahill, Jim Noone, Bob Hanlon, Bob Cooper and Fred Cygan.

2. Form a working group to identify, plan and communicate monthly events designed to encourage increased flying activity, proficiency and social activity at 9B1. Jim Grenier, Christine Pulliam, Beverly Lieberman Jim Noone and Doug Stone volunteered here.

3. Purchase paint and other cleaning supplies as needed to refusbish the interior and exterior of the trailer. The membership voted to encumber $600 for miscellaneous cleaning supplies to refurbish the trailer. Beverly Lieberman would coordinate receipts for reimbursement.

50-50 Raffle: $8.00 won by Richard DuPee. $8.00 to the chapter.

Sunday, June 19 Fly-out destination: meet at the trailer at 10am. Chatham, MA if the weather is good, otherwise the Collings Foundation.

As a special note, A Young Eagle, Timothy Burke, who took his first flight with Bill Purcell in 1998 has completed his private pilot rating, and will be attending Daniel Webster College this fall. He financed his entire flight training program with part time jobs throughout High School and Jr. High. This is the spirit of Young Eagles!
