Chapter 673 Meeting Minutes – May 8, 2007

The meeting was called to order at 7:01.

Secretary Minutes – Motion to approve the minutes for the months of March and April as published in the latest issue of the Newsletter was accepted.

Treasurer Report – The treasurer reported $210 income in the period and $45 expenses. With the bank’s account reconciliation the current balance amounts to $3678.13. Motion to approve the treasurer’s report was accepted.

Upcoming speakers – No new speakers in the pipeline.

Young Eagles Report –15-25 Young Eagles signed up to fly this Saturday (5/12/07) weather permitting. Pilots and ground helpers are needed. Stow has a Young Eagle offsite event in Beverly on May 19th from 9 to 12. Help is needed there as well.

Newsletter Report – Christine got some photos of our late friend Pete Kallander and she will publish them in the next issue of the newsletter with any other material she will receive by then.

Mail in – The Chapter may want to consider purchasing at a discount training cards for the Young eagles.

An FAA Air Safety Seminar on decision making for pilots is scheduled for May 15 at the Best Western Hotel in Bedford.

News from 9B1 – All quiet this month.

I learned about flying from that – Richard: If you fly out of the Washington DC ADIZ you should know that you should file your flight plan with Leesburg FSS (it’s stated in the NOTAMS somewhere). Jim: don’t believe anything the NTSB reports say. According to the recently published report on his accident there was one serious injury involved, and he does not recall having anybody else flying with him that day.

Old Business – Chapter members please report any address/email changes to Rich Dupee. All officers and board members should have a current national EAA membership

New Business – The board meeting was held on 4/23 at Harry’s as planned. These were the items discussed:

• The propane tanks for the trailer have been fixed. Motion to approve spending $99.25 to reimburse Bob Hanlon of expenses was accepted.

• In the interest of time side discussions during the chapter meetings should be kept to a minimum.

• The chapter will consider hiring a guest speaker for an offsite event once a year. George Guzzi suggested contacting a local astronaut.

• The chapter will extend a free non-voting membership to the Marlboro Airport owner.

• Board members should sign up to help Christine and provide an article for the newsletter. Some already did and committed to write an article and we are covered until April 2008.

• Members who fail to renew their dues will receive a renewal notice on Jan 1, and will be kept on the newsletter distribution list until April 1, at which time they will receive another renewal notice.

• Trailer generator: Jim Grenier needs to reclaim the generator he has been ,oaning the chapter. Last year the Chapter had a motion to purchase a new generator that cost less than $1,500. The Chapter will keep Jim’s old one and he will purchase a new one with the money appropriated last year.

• The trailer will have plexiglass windows installed.

• The Chapter will organize flying expeditions.

Jim suggested sending a Thank-You note to Harry’s for hosting this year’s board meeting.

Motion to send $100 donation to the charity indicated in Pete Kallander’s obituary was accepted.

Next events: Memorial Day impromptu cook-out. Air rally will be held in late September.

50/50 Raffle. April Izzi won and donated her 8$ to the chapter.

Sunday breakfast fly-out destination – Undetermined.

The speakers tonight were Peter Vergados, owner of Classic Warbirds Gallery in Newton, MA, and his friend George Guzzi, who talked about his career as aviation artist.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:36PM.
